Yes it's true, as Bob is my witness ... I did ride Burma Road on a 34:20 gear! It's a good thing Bob, SSue and Angela were there to witness it, because otherwise no one would have believed it - including me! Amazingly, I did it faster and with fewer rest breaks than when I did it about a year ago in a 24:30 gear. Just goes to show ya ... singlespeeding is good for you! For me Barbie Camp was the topper to a great vacation. My wife and I had just spent 5 fantastic and incredibly relaxing days on the Oregon coast. There was even some singlespeeding involved, as we needed a couple of grocery items on Wednesday, and the town where we were staying had no store and we didn't feel like driving to the store in the next town. Instead we rode our bikes down the beach to the next town! Sorry, no pics of the biking. Here's a rare sunny moment though: Then Krissy was off to LA for the weekend to visit friends ... and with that bribery out of the way I was now free to attend BC. We had - I dunno, maybe 40-50 riders this time. A little smaller than Fall 2002 BC but not by much. Nice new location, Mg fires strictly verboten but hose-warming, bad jokes and good riding still very much encouraged. And the weather was much warmer than fall BC - it barely got below freezing both nights! SaturdaySaturday we did a 20 mile loop in the Gray Butte/Smith Rocks area. Excellent ride, and Brandon showed usa couple of trail connections I didn't know about. Here's red-haze riding off a big ugly rock: SundayMy campsite on Sunday morning:Barbie looking very cold in her hula skirt: Action shot of Wade on his UniSSycle: and a regroup point on Sunday's Jack Creek ride: Unfortunately these were the only pics I have that turned out. I took about 30, many of which were really cool shots. Unfortunately my cheap-ass camera severely overexposes the occasional picture ... usually it's just a few pics and I don't worry about it much, but this weekend it was really acting up and ruined most of them. That's what you get when you spend $100 on a digital camera. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet soon and get myself a decent one. Sorry more of 'em didn't turn out. Anyway, it was a privilege to be a part of the official Barbie 10th Anniversary Edition as well as the snowiest BC on record. Kudos to Sparty, Coonskins and anyone else who helped out - you guys throw a real great party, and thanks for your hard work scrambling to find us an awesome alternative location at the last minute.
