Barbie was warm and wet this weeekend. I mean it rained quite a bit, and only barely got below freezing. We even had a big Fri. night windstorm that caused a trailer-park disaster on my part, and to keep things interesting it snowed very lightly on Saturday night and Sunday.
Friday night started with Lee leading us on a great 19-mile night ride from camp on the Suttle Tie Trail. We had a great turnout, and everyone had such a good time that I have a feeling this will become a regular BC tradition. Sorry, no pics ... next time I'll get a shot of everyone's lights. Saturday the main event was a nice ride up to the head of Jack Creek, which (like many streams in this area) pops right out of the volcanic ground, fully formed. Regroup: Here's a perp lineup. SS riders only please! Check out those beautiful larches in the background. There were a couple times when the wind picked up and I found myself riding through a shower of yellow needles. Cool. Another trail shot: Chris models his schwag. Looks like Meat Foot and his Surly flask were having a good time too: SSue tries to keep Chris in line (uh, didn't last long!) with her new ice axe. IDM won a couple of pieces of wearable schwag. Here's one: Not all of the schwag was of equal value, but everyone was proud of their winnings! Like I said, not all of the prizes were of equal value: And here's the most valuable one of all. This commemorative Barbie frame is loaned to its winner to ride for 6 months, and bring it back (with one additional component) to the next BC to pass on to another lucky winner. This time red-haze.com won it, and it just happens to be SSue's size: As usual, there were a couple of freak-bikes for people to ride and break. Unfortunately the "sidecar" suffered more breaking than riding: Once again, a good time was had by all. Thanks to Sparty, Justin, Lee and everyone else who helped bring off yet another successful Barbie Camp! Return to top of page | Home |
